DAS SCHATTENBUCH – THE SILVERFISH

This book tells a story about shadows and how ways of seeing things can be changed by them. The text is accompanied by tab- leaux that are projected onto a wall with the help of an integrat- ed light source. The reader becomes the presenter of a pocket cinema. The listeners, particularly children who cannot read for themselves, can concentrate on listening and on the magic of the illustrations. Once the show is over, the cinematographic tool is transformed back into a handy book to await the next presen- tation. Perhaps when it gets dark in the evening and it is time for a bedtime story.

READ/ABILITY - TYPOGRAPHY AND READABILITY

Our brains accomplish something unbelievable when we read. This form of communication did not develop in the course of evolution – reading is a cultural invention. So, what happens when we read, and is readability measurable in any way? This book provides designers with an overview of the latest insights from neuroscience and readability research, as well as the recommendations from typographers. It means to re-examine myths and impart a deeper understanding of the reading process. To this end, the content of texts even non-scientists are able to understand was processed. In accordance with stringent rules, the book is designed to draw the diverse sources together in harmony and, thus, promote the exchange between design and science.
