Sensible Trinkgefäße – sensitive containers for drinks
Technical features were the basis for the development of the form of this container. Thanks to its spherical shape, it can be tilted while being emptied. The container has been designed in such a way that it tilts towards the broad side of the sickle-shaped rim as it empties. The narrow side is the side from which to drink.

The designer has named her silver vessel “sensitive container for drinks.” The emptier it becomes, the more it tilts. When filled up, it stands erect. The technical implementation of the concept, however, was not as simple as its function. A myriad of meticulous physical tests were required to identify the exact point in the interior of the container that maintains the filled container in balance or makes it move. This point’s invisibility and the unobtrusiveness with which the container moves are captivating. The container has been designed for serial production. Technical processes for small series or industrial-type large series have been considered and developed. Viewers and users are inspired by the intelligence and humor of the container – it seems to talk to them. The level to which the container tilts can be seen as an invitation, a wink, or a reminder. Silversmithing has become a rare craft. The silver teapot has ceased to be a status symbol. Modern silversmiths must find solutions through surprising designs and technology if they want to make a living in this field.
